Periodontal Therapy

Diagnostik:

Due to the very frequent occurrence of periodontitis (parodontosis) in the population, in our practice the periodontal health is assessed at every routine examination. With the help of the Periodontal Screening Index (PSI), the findings are recorded and the patient is informed about a possible need for treatment. Any periodontal treatment can be divided into three phases.

The initial phase

Periodontal therapy always begins with a hygiene phase that optimizes oral hygiene at home. This phase is largely responsible for the further course and success of the treatment. The aim is to remove plaque deposits, i. H. the removal of all soft and hard coverings that can serve as a breeding ground and thus for the bacteria to spread.

The anti-infectious therapy

The next step is anti-infectious therapy. The aim of this treatment step is to remove the bacterial deposits on the root surface. This is done painlessly (under anesthesia) and using hand instruments and ultrasound-operated inserts.

The interim control (reevaluation)

The interim check takes place after 8 to 12 weeks. If the previous therapy was successful and the pocket depth was reduced sufficiently, no further treatment is necessary. The patient is transferred to regular follow-up care. If, however, the desired success was not achieved after the anti-infectious therapy, the treatment is continued with the corrective (surgical) phase.

The corrective (surgical) phase

The goals of the surgical phase are to remove hiding places, niches and inflammatory tissue and to promote soft tissue and bone regeneration. In order to make the treatment more gentle for our patients, we use minimally invasive procedures. This leads to fewer post-operative complaints and swellings. In addition, faster wound healing is to be expected.

The maintenance phase (aftercare)

The monitored aftercare is of great importance for the long-term success of periodontal therapy. The periodontal status is always re-assessed. If necessary, the patient will be instructed again on oral hygiene and an individual prophylaxis program will be carried out. The intervals between follow-up appointments are determined individually for each patient. Preserving your own teeth and implants is our top priority. We can fall back on our own prophylaxis center for support. Thanks to the coordinated and proven cooperation between our dentists and the prophylaxis staff, even difficult cases are always looked after competently.
